Disability and the Law

This is a discussion of the consequences of disability within a strictly legal framework. Legal definitions of disability, the rights of disabled people, disability as related to particular legislation and the law as it relates to particular disabilities are all examined. The authors cover all aspects of disability and the law, including: legal definitions of disability; rights and entitlements to housing, employment, goods, services and social security; the implications of The Children Act 1989 for disabled children; a comparative study of legislation across many countries; and a list of organizations, pressure groups and charities who work on behalf of the disabled. This study should be of interest to anyone who works or is training to work with disabled people and their families and carers.
