Written by a leader in sex therapy education and practice, this unique text enriches sex therapy trainees with over a dozen detailed client narratives - among the most powerful teaching tools for clinicians in training - that address a variety of sexual difficulties and dysfunctions, along with the treatment approach taken by an expert clinician. Treatment strategies incorporate relational, cognitive-behavioral, and existential approaches, making this an effective teaching tool for therapists using a variety of therapeutic orientations. Designed for the therapist in training, these narratives emphasize both the client's perspective and the clinician's response. They describe a variety of treatment dilemmas and decisions, providing a full, nuanced view of each individual case.

Difficulties regarding sexual functioning for both men and women are covered along with couple concerns such as infidelity and discrepancies in sexual desire between partners. Also addressed are difficulties faced by survivors of sexual abuse and assault, clients with uncontrollable sexual behaviors, and couples in LGBT relationships. The book's use of long-form narratives as a teaching tool and the integration of existential, relational, and cognitive-behavioral approaches to therapy make this book an ideal text for courses in counseling and therapy for sexual issues in marriage and family therapy, counseling and psychology training programs, and interdisciplinary programs in human sexuality and sexuality education.
