This companion video to "We Only Come Here to Struggle" follows Berida Ndambuki, a 62-year-old dried staples trader, to her work at Gikomba Market in Nairobi and to her home at Kathonzweni in Ukambani in central Kenya. The portrait presented is complex, and, although it is a personal journey, the video shows the living conditions of a large number of Kenyan women.

Claire Robertson, Associate Professor in the departments of History and Women's Studies at the Ohio State University, has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison in African History, and has specialized in the study of African women, especially traders, for some twenty-five years. She has published numerous articles and four books including Sharing the Same Bowl: A Socioeconomic History of Women and Trade in Accra, Ghana (1984), which won the 1985 Herskovits Prize from the African Studies Association, and Trouble Showed the Way: Women, Men and Trade in the Nairobi Area, 1890-1990 (1997), during the research for which she became friends with Berida Ndambuki.
