This is the full reference edition of the UK Ambulance Services Clinical Practice Guidelines 2013. The book has been produced for the Association of Ambulance Chief Executives and the Joint Royal Colleges Ambulance Liaison Committee.
The 2013 Clinical Practice Guidelines provide guidance for NHS paramedics; although the principles are applicable to the work of all pre-hospital clinicians. The guidelines are an important part of clinical risk management and ensure uniformity in the delivery of high quality patient care. It provides pre-hospital clinicians with essential information on drug dosages, treatment algorithms and management plans. As such, they form the basis for UK paramedic training and education.
BMA Book Award Review Panel - “This works really well as a textbook for pre-hospital care. This is a great book: it is hard to find any weaknesses other than that the editorial board will need to update the guidelines at regular intervals. It is a really useful, easy to use, multi-author, reference text for pre-hospital care. The guidelines are useful, up-to-date and evidence based. The book is easy to use with tabled sections, which are similar to the pocket book version. The index is accurate and easy to use. I particularly like the Page for Age sections for guidelines to treat children from newborns to age 11 years. The section on medication is also easy to use. There is a pocket book version available which is shorter, but much easier to use in the field (UK Ambulance Services Clinical Practice Guidelines 2013 Pocketbook ISBN 9781859593653). The two books work really well together to provide a useful field reference book and a larger text book. I would highly recommend both these books for anyone interested in pre-hospital care.”
