This study analyses the exceptional narratives of five South Asian women writers who uncover hidden manifestations of male violence against women. Their vehement struggle for the attention on gender-based violence is transferred into literary representations that give the impression of an avalanche of feelings impatiently waiting to be transformed into words after a long-endured silence.
In analysing the possibilities and consequences of disrupting the silence on male violence, this study discusses the costs and the chances of success of such a non-conformist endeavour.

Roxana Palade is a PhD student at the University of Konstanz. She received her BA in Comparative Literature and English from the University Al.I. Cuza, and her MA in British and American Studies from the University of Konstanz. Her research experience in New Delhi (2009 and 2011) inspired, facilitated and reinforced her strong interest in Indian literature, feminist activism, and gendered violence. She is currently writing about womens instrumentalization during Indias Partition. Her study is based on a selection of literary representations of womens experience of victimization, loss, and displacement.
