Oregon Studies in Chinese and Russian Culture is a unique collection of original essays and articles in English on Chinese and Russian language, literature, art, philosophy, and culture that were presented at the Summer 1986 Intensive Workshop for gifted teachers of Chinese and Russian sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education at the University of Oregon. Participants in the workshop and contributors to this collective monograph include distinguished scholars, writers, philosophers, and artists such as Yue Daiyun, Ilya Serman, Yeh Chia-Ying, Ernst Neizvestny, Tang Yijie, Ruth Zernova, and Samuel Cheung.

The Editor: Albert Leong is Associate Professor of Slavic Languages, Head of the Department of Russian, Director of the Russian and East European Studies Center, and Project Director of the Summer 1986 Intensive Workshop in Chinese and Russian at the University of Oregon. He received his B.A., MA., and Ph.D. in Slavic Languages and Literatures from the University of Chicago and has taught Russian language, literature, and culture at the University of Oregon since 1966. He is editor of The Millennium: Christianity and Russia (A.D. 988-1988), Space, Time, and Synthesis in Art: Essays on Art, Literature, and Philosophy by Ernst Neizvestny, and Studies in Comparative Communism ('Socialist Realism: Cinema and the Arts'). His current book project is a biography, The Art of Freedom: Ernst Neizvestny and Russian Culture.
