She was popular in the late 1980s and the early 1990s. At the age of 17, Gibson was the youngest artist ever to write, produce, and perform a Billboard Hot 100 1 hit single (in the USA) with her song "Foolish Beat",effectively taking the crown from her then teen idol George Michael (who had, coincidentally, been asked to produce "Foolish Beat," but passed on the opportunity).
