Presents major criminal cases in history involving wrongfully convicted persons. This work graphically details by category how wrongly convicted persons were sent to prison - or to the gallows. It also includes a comprehensive glossary of legal, judicial and law enforcement terms applying to all cases.
Hundreds of cases of history's most famous and infamous wrongly convicted persons, depicting all the hate, revenge, lunacy, deception, greed, corruption, stupidity and common error that sent innocent persons to jail or grave. "I Am Innocent!" presents - in annotated encyclopaedic format and lively prose, accompanied by hundreds of fascinating illustrations - every major criminal case in history involving wrongfully convicted persons. Here you can find all the famously - or infamously - "innocent", from Mary, Queen of Scots to Alfred Dreyfus, from Leo Frank to the Scottsboro Boys, from Dr Sam Sheppard to Anthony Porter, from Joan of Arc to Lindy Chamberlain, as well as hundreds of other cases that have, until now, been lost in obscurity. Unequalled in depth and breadth of coverage, this work graphically details by category (perjury, railroading, framing, suppression of evidence, police and prosecutorial coercion, mistaken identity and prejudicial publicity) how wrongly convicted persons were sent to prison - or to the gallows.
Also included in the book is a comprehensive glossary of legal, judicial and law enforcement terms applying to all cases; an extensive Filmography of films based on actual wrongly convicted case; the most comprehensive Bibliography ever offered on the subject, and an annotated Index providing among many sub-categories, all types of crimes, types of wrongful evidence used to convict, cases by geographical location and judicial decisions listed alphabetically by name of the case.
