This is the official Rambler's Association guide for 1996. The book includes information on 2000 guest houses and bed and breakfast establishments that welcome walkers, as well as inexpensive, off-the-beaten-track accommodation. There is also a section on maps for walkers, prepared by Ordnance Survey. A directory of shops selling equipment and clothing for ramblers is included, and also basic details on over 45 long-distance routes with maps and details on youth hostels. The book features a walker's diary, advice on finding and using public transport in the countryside, including a list of local authority telephone numbers for information, a directory of of over 100 organizations concerned for example, with outdoor recreation and conservation, and also tips for safe walking and advice for new ramblers.
