The phenomena of parametric optics, which include the piezooptic effect still remain the fundamental basis for the development of various optical instruments. On the other hand, the existing experimental methods for studying the piezooptic properties of crystalline media are quite imperfect and lead to significant errors. These circumstances highlight the importance and relevance of the further development of piezooptics methods. This book will familiarize the reader with the 2D-polarimetric and interferometric methods in the study of the piezooptic effect under the action of inhomogeneous mechanical stresses. The use of these methods makes it possible to increase the accuracy of the piezooptic experiment and ensure the reliability of the results. In addition, this book presents the results of experimental studies of the photoelastic properties of crystals, which provide determination of the complete matrices of piezooptic and elastoptic coefficients.

Professor Rostyslav O. Vlokh is the Director of the O.G. Vlokh Institute of Physical Optics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. He is the author of more than 300 journal papers and five books focused on crystal optics, parametric optics, optical properties of ferroics under phase transitions, and singular optics. Dr Igor Skab currently works at the O.G. Vlokh Institute of Physical Optics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. His work focuses on parametric crystal optics, singular optics, and optical materials. He is a co-author of two books and more than 70 scientific papers.Dr Oleg Krupych currently works at the O.G. Vlokh Institute of Physical Optics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine. His research interests include high-accuracy, single-ray polarimetry, the design of imaging polarimeters, and photoelastic tomography, among others.Dr Dmitro Adamenko currently works at the O.G. Vlokh Institute of Physical Optics of the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.
