The course will also offer you an insight into Turkish culture.
The book consists of 10 graded units introducing you to the basic structures and grammatical points you ll need in everyday situations, such as booking into a hotel, shopping, eating and travelling. New language is introduced through short dialogues and texts which are also on the accompanying recording and there are plenty of exercises to practise each new point as it is introduced. There is a special section on pronunciation and the Turkish alphabet at the beginning of the book to get you started and revision exercises at the end of every unit so that you can check your progress and review any areas of difficulty. By the end of the course you ll be able to communicate in a wide range of real-life situations and have all the practical information you need to enjoy your next trip to Turkey.
The accompanying double cassette provides listening material. The cassettes (0 340 84538 4) and book (0 340 84534 1) can also be purchased separately. Alternatively, the listening material is available on a double CD which can be purchased on its own (0 340 84537 6) or in a pack with the book (0 340 84535 X).

Asuman Celen Pollard was born in northern Turkey and spent her childhood in Izmir. She spent many years in Istanbul teaching both English and Turkish as foreign languages. From 1992-6 she taught Turkish at the Brasshouse Language Centre in Birmingham. She has also taught Turkish at Birmingham University, since 1992 at the Centre for Byzantine and Ottoman Studies and, since 1996, also at the Centre for Modern Languages. Now she also runs her own business as a Turkish/English Language expert.
