Offers a collection of printed works of regional materials held by Appalachian Consortium members at various institutions in the Appalachia region. The material has been selectively annotated by Charlotte T. Ross as well as cross referenced with other sources.
This monograph represents a massive effort to assemble printed works of regional materials held by Appalachian Consortium members at various institutions in the Appalachia region. The five libraries contributing to the effort formed a committee to formalize and catalogue their research which resulted in the 13,000 entry bibliographic compendium which had grown from a small, local record of several hundred entries. The material has been selectively annotated by Charlotte T. Ross as well as cross referenced with other sources by members of the library committee. At the time of its publication, this work represented the largest bibliography on the region replacing the once authoritative Weatherford-Hammond Mountain Collection housed at Berea College in Kentucky.

Charlotte Tanksley Ross is also known as the Legend Lady. Ross has collected about 4,000 folk tales. She is a noted storyteller, folklorist and Appalachian State University communications adjunct professor. She has performed at the American Folklore Society, Smithsonian Institution Folklore Festival, Opryland and the Ulster (Ireland) Folklife Festival. In 1969, Ross was hired as the Appalachian Room's first Librarian. In 1976, Charlotte Ross published the Bibliography of Southern Appalachia. She is co-author of From my grandmother's grandmother unto me with her daughter Clarinda. She and her husband Carl Ross had two children: Clarinda and Tyler.
