Quality education starts and ends with competent and knowledgeable instruction. Today’s students demand that educational programs be informative and challenging. With accreditation of EMS programs on the horizon—and the mandate that instructors develop their own teaching materials, not simply use “canned” materials off the shelf—EMS instructors need clear, detailed direction on course design and tools to enhance their courses.

Instructional Methods for Public Safety offers a broad-spectrum view of the latest educational trends and cutting-edge information on emergency services instruction. Based on the current National Guidelines for Educating EMS Instructors by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and encompassing the recommendations of the EMS Education Standards, this resource offers new and experienced instructors concise guidance on the development of high-quality, interactive educational and assessment tools.

Mr. McClincy is currently the Executive Director of EMMCO West, Inc., Meadville, PA. He has been with the organization for 22 years, last 6 in the role of ED. He has written two textbooks, dealing with instructional methods. He has written numerous articles for prestigious industry publications, including Jems, EMS Magazine, and Emergency magazine and presented at national, state, and regional conferences. In 1994, Mr. McClincy was the principal researcher for a rural health federal grant that examined the use of individualized instruction techniques to improve student performance and retention of information. He has served on the National Registry of EMTs examination development committee and has assisted the Atlantic EMS Council, including the Commonwealth of Virginia. He is currently a National Registry Practical Examination Representative. In his spare time, Mr McClincy enjoys taking a trip annually with his family to the Great Smokey Mountains of Tennessee. He is also a ground crew member of several hot air balloon teams in the Meadville, PA area.
