Written by consultant for BBC's 'Railway Walks' series - the perfect guide to accompany the railway rambler
In Railway Walks: LNER, Jeff Vinter, previous Chairman of Railway Ramblers and consultant on the BBC's 'Railway Walks' series, provides an indispensable guide to ten carefully selected railway paths coveted from lines once owned by the London and North Eastern Railway. From the quiet byways of East Anglia to the dramatic scenery of the North Yorkshire coast and the moorlands of Weardale, the routes are described in detail, providing everything necessary for enjoyable days out, whether you are a keen walker, a railway enthusiast or just looking for somewhere special to take the family.

Descriptions include OS grid references, helpful maps and illustrations, and comprehensive information about transport and refreshment facilities. Suggestions for further explorations into each area's industrial past are also offered. Even the 'armchair walker' is catered for, with well-researched history being provided for each of the ten lines. Railway walks offer something for everybody and with Railway Walks: LNER you can be sure that you'll be able to make the most of this fascinating and rather different aspect of the English.

A well-respected railway historian, JEFF VINTER joined the Railway Society at the University of Exeter whilst studying History there and began exploring the West Country’s closed rail network. An ex-Chairman of Railway Ramblers and serving Trustee of the charity Railway Paths, he has acted as consultant to a number of television series about disused railway lines, most notably Along These Lines for Meridian and the BBC series Railway Walks with Julia Bradbury, as well as James May’s Toy Stories. His books include the four-volume Railway Walks series. He lives in Chichester, Sussex.
