Written by Nancy Lieberman-Cline and Robin Roberts, two women who know the game and how to excel at it, the Basketball for Women book challenges women from high school through college to develop their talent and skill to the highest level. This practical guide provides 111 drills for improving and refining offensive and defensive skills. The authors explain the importance of each skill, identify the keys to proper technique, show how to correct common errors, and apply these skills in game situations.
Basketball for Women: Offensive Skills shows players how to become triple threats on offense--to pass, dribble, or shoot. The tape provides instruction and drills for developing moves without the ball, improving ball-handling skills, sharpening shooting technique, and making better decisions about attacking the basket.
Basketball for Women: Defense & Rebounding will teach players the finer points of shutting down the opponent and banging the boards. The tape provides instruction and drills for pressuring the ball, denying the pass, taking charges, positioning for rebounds, and much, much more.
Nancy Lieberman-Cline was named the first Head Coach/General Manager of the WNBA's Detroit Shock and is in command of the team's entire basketball operation, overseeing staff, roster development, and all player acquisitions while also coaching the team on the floor. She also works with the WNBA league office on key player allocation, policy, and personnel issues. Lieberman-Cline was inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame in 1996. She concluded her professional playing career in 1997, playing 25 regular season games for the WNBA's Phoenix Mercury in the league's inaugural season. She played professionally in three other leagues, including the WABA, where she led the Dallas Diamonds to a league championship in 1984 as their top scorer. She played collegiately at Old Dominion University, whom she led to two AIAW national championships ('79, '80) while earning All-America kudos for three straight seasons (1978-80). She represented the United States on Olympic Teams, two World Championship teams and two Pan-American Games teams, becoming, at age 18, the youngest basketball player in Olympic history to win a medal, getting a silver in 1976 at Montreal. Lieberman-Cline has an extensive broadcasting background, working for 17 years as a color analyst for nearly every major network, including ESPN, for whom she currently works on college basketball broadcasts. She runs her own sports marketing company as well, Events Marketing, Inc., which is based in Dallas.
