About the Authors Richard "Digger" Phelps is the renowned basketball coach from the University of Notre Dame, where he won more games than any coach in the school's history. In 1984, he was a commentator for ABC Sports' coverage at the Summer Olympics in Los Angeles. He served as basketball analyst for CBS Sports during the 1992 and 1993 NCAA tournament and is now a college basketball analyst for ESPN. John Walters has been writing and reporting on basketball, football, and general interest stories for Sports Illustrated for the past eight years.
