Working in media from charcoal to oils, automotive and motor racing artist F Gordon Crosby's subjects ranged over motor racing action, caricatures, cartoons, technical illustrations, detailed cutaway drawings and depictions of fast cars at speed, always with a special sense of motion and excitement. This title covers the life and work of Crosby.
This is still the only book to cover the life and work of the celebrated automotive and motor racing artist F. Gordon Crosby. Original copies of the Hamlyn edition have been out of print and difficult to obtain for many years. Crosby's work, however, has become better known in the meantime and original pieces are sold for increasingly high prices. His most productive period was the 1920s and 1930s, when he worked for Britain's leading automotive magazine, "The Autocar". Working in media from charcoal to oils, his subjects ranged over motor racing action, caricatures, cartoons, technical illustrations, detailed cutaway drawings and depictions of fast cars at speed, always with a special sense of motion and excitement. This is the only book to record the life and works of probably the most famous automotive artist who ever lived. Crosby did much more than record great cars - he was equally concerned with overall impressions, each painting being a combination of life, vigour and mechanical accuracy.

The late Peter Garnier was first sports editor, then editor, of Autocar, Britain's biggest motoring weekly, in the 1950s and '60s. He also became a well-known figure in motorsport, particularly rallying, as he competed in wide range of events, often partnering famous drivers.
