Pairing legend with fact, memory with history, this volume examines the teachings of Sri Ramakrishna and conveys the true story of this great mystic, whose leaping flame of spiritual realization continues to influence the modern spiritual search.
Sri Ramakrishna, one of the greatest spiritual personalities of our time, is widely recognised as the prophet of the harmony of religions. After perfecting the practice of several religions - including Christianity, Islam and various traditions of Hinduism - he declared, "As many faiths, so many paths."

This modern, historically accurate portrayal of the life of Sri Ramakrishna explains several systems of Indian religious thought intimately connected with his life. It examines Sri Ramakrishna and his teachings and succeeds in conveying the story of the great mystic and the deeper spirit of that story, known as the Ramakrishna legend.

Swami Adiswarananda (1925–2007), former senior monk of the Ramakrishna Order of India, was Minister and Spiritual Leader of the Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Center of New York. Among his writings are Caste and Outcast, My Brother's Face and The Face of Silence, the first English language biography of Sri Ramakrishna. Swami Nikhilananda (1895–1973), a direct disciple of Holy Mother Sri Sarada Devi, was a distinguished monk of the Ramakrishna Order of India and a major figure in introducing the teachings of Yoga and Vedanta to America and the West. Dhan Gopel Mukerji was one of the earliest émigrés from India to America. Among his writings are Caste and Outcast, My Brother's Face and The Face of Silence, the first English language biography of Sri Ramakrishna.
