Although some useful pilotage notes on anchorage and port approaches are included, the book is primarily aimed at those wishing to learn of the history of this ancient coastline. A thematic approach results in respective chapters on castles, churches, gardens and ships. Each subject is described in detail with a tabulated guide to aid location of individual places of interest mentioned in the text. Although written with the cruising yachtsman in mind, any visitors to the Highlands will find this book useful.
