The Welsh Cob, a breed established in the fifteenth century, has become one of the most popular breeds in the world for riding and driving. This book, beautifully illustrated with colour pictures and laced with Welsh poetry, traces the development of the breed from its origins and that of its ancestor, the Welsh Mountain Pony. The Cob's strong constitution, hardiness and agility have made it a good light draught horse in the past, but it is mainly used nowadays for riding. It is a good jumper, at home on difficult terrain, making it suitable for show jumping and other competitive sports, as well as trekking. The premium stallions and auction sales are described here with detailed figures, and special attention is given to selected influential studs. The spread of the breed overseas is also described, and a chapter is devoted to the part-bred animal. This book will be of any interest to the specialist as well as anyone fascinated by this most popular of our native breeds, and this is the most comprehensive and factual work yet published.
