First published in French in 1994, and long out of print, the author Gilles Fournier has graciously allowed Dalton Watson to arrange the translation into English of his highly regarded history of this famous early marque. The book describes the development of the Amilcar company, the different models produced, and details its racing records and the drivers and personalities involved. David Burgess-Wise, respected motoring author and enthusiast has provided the translation and prepared a new Brooklands supplement with previously unpublished photographs from the Brooklands archives. This English version is lavishly illustrated with the original period photographs and advertisements of the era. The French text is included as a separate supplement, and the two volumes are enclosed in a slip case.
Gilles Fournier bought his first old car at the age of 17. Shortly afterwards, he came across an Amilcar cyclecar and was smitten by the allure of the marque, becoming completely addicted when he first heard the wonderfully beguiling sound of the supercharged twin-cam 1100cc engine of the incomparable six-cylinder Amilcar. He is now researching a second Amilcar book. David Burgess-Wise is also an enthusiast of French marques. A motoring writer since 1960, David has his own specialist editorial service and has written some 25 books on motoring history. He also edits the award-winning Aston, journal of the Aston Martin Heritage Trust.
