A restricted "Certificate of Competence in Radio Telephony VHF Only" is compulsory for all owners of VHF radio telephones as well as for the RYA Yachtmaster Offshore qualification. This textbook and its accompanying cassette have been produced as a complete self-tutor for the aspiring operator who wishes to become a fluent radio communicator. It includes all the information necessary to pass the examination and a question and answer page is included for revision. The cassette shows how these potential life-saving techniques are put into practice. The Global Maritime Distress and Safety System (GMDSS) becomes operational on 1st February 1999. This third edition gives details of the new equipment that will be required from that date for all operators of small craft, and includes the syllabus for the new Radio Operator's Certificate which will also come into force then.
