The PT Cruiser's history is the story of a remarkable car. It was created by a group of talented, original thinking designers, whose determined to break away from conventional, stay inside-the-lines thinking were supported by a Corporation eager to express the best elements of its 20th century origins in a fashion appealing to the sophisticated new car buyers of the 21st century. This book's carefully researched and profusely illustrated text presents a detailed history of this remarkable car. The changes made for each model year are described in detail. Similarly, the specifications of each PT Cruiser model are included along with dozens of illustrations of items as wheels, wheel covers, interior trim features and options. Hundreds of color photos graphically display the intriguing variety of PT Cruiser models from every model year including 2007. In addition to the prices of each PT Cruiser model, full description, availability and cost of their options are included. Of interest to all PT Cruiser enthusiasts is an appendix detailing the Cruiser's sales history.

I was born and raised in Rockland County, which until the mid-fifties, was a region of New York State characterized by small villages and farms just 18 miles or so from New York City. After high school and college and having seen enough of "progress" destroying this wonderful way of life, my wife and I moved to a small community a few miles from Cooperstown, New York, home of the Baseball Hall of Fame. After raising three daughters and a career in education I decided to change the tempo of life and began a new occupation as a full-time writer of automotive history. This was simply an extension of what I had been doing since my preadolescent years when my brother and I would collect sales brochures from any auto dealer who wouldn't show us the exit/door, since we obviously had no cash, no credit and no intention of buying a new car. Ever since I was in elementary school I was fascinated by the hopped-up Fords and Chevys (and even an occasional Plymouth) of the late '30's and '40's that the older "cool" boys drove to school. Recollections of those cars from long ago instantly came to mind when I first saw the PT Cruiser in 2000. Having previously written numerous articles and several books on Chrysler vehicles, my interest in the PT as the subject of a forthcoming volume was instantaneous.

Chapter One: Creating the Coolest Thing On Wheels (Origins of the PT Cruiser) Chapter Two: An Entirely New Car For A Whole New Century (Design and development of the PT Cruiser) Chapter Three: Cruiser Mania (2001-2002 models) Chapter 4-A Little Something For Taking Cruising To Another Level...Very Quickly (2003 models) Chapter Five-: "Wherever Two Or More PT Cruisers Are Gathered, You're Guaranteed To Have a Good Time" (2004 models) Chapter Six:: "A Top Down From The Ground Up" (The 2005 PT Cruiser Sedans and Convertible) Chapter Seven-: "Can Inspiration Build A Vehicle That Makes You Smile Every Time You See It?" (2006 and 2007 PT Cruisers)
