Ford GT

Adrian Streather was born on Christmas Day 1958 in Basingstoke, England, but is an Australian citizen. Adrian a less than successful racing driver of Ford Escorts many years ago has friends who actually drove the original Ford GT in competition. Listening to their stories created the desire to write about the Ford GT. However, it was driving the new Ford GT on a European road trip which really inspired this book. Adrian lives in Walzenhausen, Switzerland, with his wife Gail, daughter Stephanie and son Jeremy. This is Adrian s fourth book, but his first on the Ford GT.

Chapter 2: New hunting season opens. Covers the glorious racing days of 1966, the teams and their drivers. Chapter 3: Storm clouds gather. Covers the 1967 racing season, the All American effort, the glory and the politics. It follows the new J.W. Automotive - Gulf team with their Ford GTs and Ford Mirage M1s and finishes with the end of the official Ford Motor Co. involvement in the Ford GT program. Chapter 4: The show must go on. Covers the privateers Ford GT teams along with the Gulf team in their struggle to keep the Ford GT competitive. Covers the Ford GT in competition to its last race in Angola in 1975. Includes the Gulf Mirage M2 and M3 as well as the ascendancy of Porsche Kg culminating with Porsche 917. Chapter 5: Rebirth of a Legend. Covers the new Ford GT from concept to production and includes the brand new Ford GTX1 Roadster. Chapter 6: The real world. Covers the Ford GT on the road from test driving by the author, to Pan European road trips to an actual new Ford GT owner out on the race track. Also has new photographs of the Ford GT X1 on the road. Chapter 7: Replicators showroom. Covers some of the Ford GT replica companies and their products. Includes new Ford GT inspired products. Also looks at a privately constructed Ford GT replica. Theme of this chapter is that the replicas kept the legend of the Ford GT alive. Chapter 8: Life after Forty. Covers some of the original Ford GT survivors around the world. Primarily in the UK, Europe and the USA. Covers the twin sets and how they happened; which means there are two Ford GTs with the same chassis number.
