With an emphasis on the textiles, rugs, furniture and wall decorations of the Moghul and Rajput cultures, this book takes the reader inside a variety of Indian homes. Each section of the book is devoted to homes of a certain type, but attention is paid to the details, patterns and motifs that define the distinct styles of decoration.
Asian Style is not just about Zen minimalism. After a decade of pared-down simplicity in the home, many people are looking for opulence and comfort, the warmth and drama of intense colour and pattern. Exquisitely crafted Indian fabrics and furniture are becoming increasingly fashionable in the West. With an emphasis on the textiles, rugs, furniture and wall decorations of the Moghul and Rajput cultures, "The Indian Interior" takes the reader inside a wide variety of Indian homes across the social spectrum be they merchant's houses, forts, Rajasthani palaces, colonial or modern interiors or even the semi-permanent tent fort of the Rabari tribe. Each section of the book is devoted to homes of a certain type, but in all of them attention is paid to the details, patterns and motifs that define the distinct styles of decoration, which are as rich in significance and meaning as they are beautiful. Magical special photography brings every rug, wall hanging, cushion and chair to life.
