Sylvia Hatchell has been a college head coach for 30 years, with a career won-lost record of 659-260. Over the past 19 years, she has coached the University of North Carolina women’s teams to a record of 387-180. Her teams have won five Atlantic Coast Conference titles (including 2005), and in 1994 the Tar Heels won the NCAA National Championship. They are certain to be ranked in the top five nationally as the 2005-06 season opens. Sylvia was inducted into the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame in 2004. Hometown: Chapel Hill, NC Jeff Thomas, a long-time writer and contributing editor for Sailing Magazine, has published over 50 articles on boats, sailing, and sailors.
