The 1970s was a great decade for British racing drivers, but it was also the era in which the nation lost a generation of brilliant young drivers - Roger Williamson, Tony Brise and Tom Pryce - in tragic accidents. All had the potential to be World Champions. With access to their families, friends and race colleagues, David Tremayne tells their full stories for the first time. It makes for poignant but uplifting reading.
David Tremayne, motor racing correspondent for The Independent, has written a number of well-received titles for Haynes including The Science of Formula 1 Design and Rubens Barrichello: In the wheeltracks of Senna. He lives in London.
Roger Williamson, was killed at Zandvoort in 1973, driving an STP March for Tom Wheatcroft: 'Nobody could take his place in my heart' - Tom Wheatcroft. Tony Brise, driving for Graham Hill's Embassy team, was killed in 1975 when Hill's plane crashed: 'He would have been a force to be reckoned with, no question' - Mario Andretti. Tom Pryce, a Shadow driver, was killed in 1977 at Kyalami: 'He had the same sort of car control as Jochen Rindt' - Alan Rees. 'Those three were far more committed and talented than James Hunt' - Trevor Foster.
