All was calm
in the gardens of green,
but one little song,
caused a scene,
It began with a twitter,
barely a sound,
but grew to a chorus,
all around.
“My nest is the best”,
they sang in turn,
but Bullfinch knows,
they’ve much to learn.
‘This colourful and quirky children’s book is a wonderful introduction to British birds, and their nesting habits. A lovely story woven around some real facts about nesting habits… young children should love it!’ – Barn Owl Trust

Luke Western is a Shropshire based artist and wildlife lover. Over the years, Luke has illustrated thousands of birds and you’ll find a number of his ‘Geometric Birds’ designs throughout the book. The idea for The Best Nest Contest began from a simple moment of observation, as Luke found himself narrating the antics of garden birds to his ten-month-old daughter. One memorable afternoon, amidst the fluttering wings, a lively debate ensued over a particular birdhouse nestled in the garden. Luke would love to inspire the next generation of wildlife ambassadors, and a lifetime of fascination starts with education, and being inspired during childhood.
