Myron L Weisfeldt is Professor of Medicine at Johns Hopkins Medical School, USA, and was the William Osler Professor and Medicine Department Chair at the same institution from 2001 to 2014. He received his MD degree from Johns Hopkins University and trained in cardiology at Massachusetts General Hospital, USA. He trained in research at the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA. He became Director of Cardiology at Johns Hopkins in 1975, and Medicine Department Chair at Columbia University, USA, in 1991. He was President of the American Heart Association (AHA) in 1990 and in 1996 was elected to the National Academy of Medicine. He led the effort of the American Heart Association to develop Automatic External Defibrillators for bystander use. From 2003 to 2019, he was Study Chair for a NIH international network to conduct randomized trials of devices, drugs and other therapies for out-of-hospital cardiac arrest and traumatic injury. He received the AHA Braunwald Award for Mentoring in 2022. His research interests include heart function, age changes in the heart and circulation, and cardiopulmonary resuscitation.
