Stunning photographs celebrating the famous Settle to Carlisle railway line and the surrounding scenery.
The S&C is fast approaching its 150th anniversary, a remarkable milestone considering its threat of closure a few decades ago.
For the last two decades, the author has lived both in Cumbria and North Yorkshire, near to both the northern and southern extremities of the line, consequently enjoying the privilege of becoming intimate with the geography and character of all sections of the route, covering it photographically in all seasons, in the changing climates and moods. Collected here are stunning and evocative landscape format colour images, each accompanied by a concise caption. The reader explores the S&C route geographically from south to north, from Hellifield, the main junction station and loco change and watering point, to the Border City of Carlisle.
A fitting celebration of one of Britain’s best-loved railway routes, and home to some of the country’s most stunning scenery, this book is sure to delight railway fans both young and old.
