The Third International Congress on Skiing and Science was held at Snowmass at Aspen, CO USA, from March 28 - April 3, 2004. The conference was organized and hosted by the St. Cloud State University and by the Aspen Valley Ski and Snowboard Club. It was also part of the programs of the World Commission of Sports Science. The scientific program offered again a broad spectrum of current research work in Alpine skiing, snowboarding, cross country skiing and ski jumping. In addition to the 5 keynote papers, for which the editors were able to secure some of the most renowned experts in the relevant fields, 50 oral and 21 poster presentations stimulated fruitful discussion. In "Science and Skiing III", the keynotes and the oral presentations are published. The manuscripts were subject to peer review and editorial judgment prior to acceptance. The papers in this volume will surely, like the two congress proceedings before, stimulate many scientists throughout the world to enhance research in the field of skiing so that at the Fourth International Congress on Science and Skiing, which will be organized in Salzburg in 2008, many new research projects will be presented.
