Guide to landmark events in the history of Grand Prix racing from the early days of the motor car and the beginning of the World Drivers' Championship. Includes special featrues on the development of car technology as it happened and the men who shaped the sport.
The book opens with an historical account of every racing decade from the early years of international and Grand Prix competition to the Formula One championships of the present day. Two separate A-Z guides of past and current teams and drivers are included from heroes to obscure bit-part players. Racetracks are also featured - even those that are no longer in use - with details of their history, design, development and golden years. An overview of driver/team statistics completes this no-nonsense guide to the fastest sport in the world. Illustrated on every page with colour photographs and original archive material, this is an essential guide to the world of Formula One Grand Prix racing.

Mark Hughes, the author, raced cars long before he ever began to write about them, competing in karting and Formula Ford in the 1980s. He began his journalistic career at motorsport weekly Motoring News in 1988, where he worked for five years, becoming International Racing Editor. After a foray into road car journalism, he returned to his first love of racing when he became freelance in 1996. In this capacity he was commissioned by Britain's motorsport bible, Autosport, to be its Grand Prix Editor at Large. He has fulfilled this role since 2000. Jenson Button has been driving in Formula One since 2000. He has driven for Williams and Renault, and currently drives for BAR. This year he has been experiencing the greatest form of his career.
