A seventeen-year-old boy who lived in Blackpool met a seventeen-year-old girl from Accrington on a night out at the Blackpool Tower Ballroom and became penfriends. When they both went on to live in Liverpool, the relationship developed into something much more serious.

L.R. Olszewski 1948 - 2020 was a working-class grammar school boy who studied metallurgy at Liverpool University and LRIC chemistry at Blackburn College. He worked as a technical sales representative for an abrasive manufacturing company for many years. He wrote over two hundred letters to his future wife from 1965 to 1968. He married her in 1968 and had a daughter and two granddaughters. His main passions in life were aviation, motorcycles, music and travel.
