Dr Tim Coates started his career as a scientist researching tsetse fly behaviour, ecology and physiology, working in Zimbabwe for three years. He returned to the UK in 1985 and worked as an electronics technician for the Dental Research Group at Bristol University. He developed an interest in dentistry and took a dental degree at Bristol, graduating in 2000. He worked in both the NHS and private sectors until retirement in 2021.
