Humanity stands at the crossroads. What will we choose? For the Good of All, NOW! is a guide for embracing connection, oneness, and community. David Currie addresses many of the different challenges facing humanity today, as well as outlining why the current political systems are failing us. Using candor and historical events, David demonstrates what we need to do to create meaningful change through a deeper understanding of the symbiotic relationship that we have with each other and the planet we call home. David shares insightful tips on how to contribute to meaningful change through Circle, as well as sharing practical steps we can all take to help move the world in a new direction. For the Good of All, NOW! strikes at the philosophy that individualism is the best path forward and argues for recognizing the oneness that binds us all. This is not another environmental book about recycling. This is about a movement that can change how we live as a society and how we interact with each other and our environment. For the Good of All, NOW! asks us to open up to the possibilities of building a different world focused on caring, connection, and the good of all!

CHAPTER 1
DEEP SELF
“Of The Empire” by Mary Oliver
We will be known as a culture that feared death
and adored power, that tried to vanquish insecurity
for the few and cared little for the penury of the many.
We will be known as a culture that taught
and rewarded the amassing of things, that spoke
little if at all about the quality of life for
people (other people), for dogs, for rivers.
All the world, in our eyes, they will say, was a commodity.
And they will say that this structure
was held together politically, which it was, and
they will say also that our politics was no more
than an apparatus to accommodate the feelings of
the heart, and that the heart, in those days,
was small, and hard, and full of meanness.
From Red Bird—Poems by Mary Oliver, 2008 p.46
The reason I am writing this book is because it is easier to imagine the annihilation of billions of people as a result of “Man’s inhumanity to man” (Robert Burns, 1784) than to imagine achieving unity and peace on Earth. If this statement is as dispiriting to you as it is to me, then you will understand the purpose for writing the book.
The true story of “Our Lady of Unity & Peace” and Mary Oliver’s poem “Of The Empire” paint two very different pictures. This guidebook will also paint two very different pictures and two very different outcomes. If you want to live in unity and peace, I invite you to join me as I explain how it can and will, finally, be accomplished. My goals are: 1) To give you as many tools as I can to allow you to attract more happiness and serenity in your life than you ever imagined, now; 2) To provide an opportunity for humanity to coalesce around the ancient and new technologies presented here; and, 3) To assemble a worldwide grassroots movement resulting in a human society that is laser-focused on the wellbeing of the planet: For the Good of All, NOW!
Although the topic could fill a library, I want as many people as possible to engage. Please don’t expect a scholarly dissertation this is not a monograph. I am hoping to hit a Goldilocks happy medium: not too hard, not too soft, just right. There are no sweeping inspirational passages nor cliff-hanging dramatic plots in this book. Rather it contains practical wisdom, some science and history, and innovative strategies using time-tested methods. It won’t dig as deeply as some would like, and it will be too much for others. It should be read while keeping the Resources section of the website handy: www.forthgoodofallnow.org. In all these respects, I think of it as a self-empowerment manual for the transition we are in.
The two main thrusts are self-empowerment, based on Thich Nhat Hahn’s The Art of Power, and the why, what, when and how related to a local-to-global movement: For the Good of All, NOW! The first three chapters will follow a pattern: Who, Where, How, and What. Section A asks Who am I? or Who are we? Section B asks Where am I—or we— going? Section C: How am I—or we—getting there? Section D: What changes can I—or we—expect to experience? Section E: provides a brief summary of the chapter or suggests additional resources. Between the website (www.forthegoodofallnow.org) and this book, you will have more than enough information to make decisions and act on them.
SECTION A: Who am I? Who are We?
1. MYTH—STORIES OF HUMANKIND
In The Power of Myth, a book, and hugely popular series of televised conversations on American television in 1988, the author Joseph Campbell gave the American audience a real appreciation for the Power of Myth and the Hero’s Journey. These stories are the touchstones of human culture and existence told since the time we first learned to communicate verbally.
Homer’s epic poem the Odyssey may indeed be familiar to many– Wikipedia notes that experts around the world declared the Odyssey “literature’s most enduring narrative” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Odyssey). Current examples like The Wizard of Oz, Star Wars, The Lord of the Rings, and the Harry Potter stories, are also myths. Myths describe how any one of us, if our heart is in the right place, can achieve extraordinary outcomes. The hero’s power grows from the pursuit of a worthy goal, a better world, and the companionship of a team of trusted fellow travelers. The lesson of the journey unlocks the power of the myth, which often turns out to be already inside us.
Like Odysseus, Frodo, Luke Skywalker, and Dorothy, you will uncover how to develop your superpowers. In The Wizard of Oz, as many readers will recall, Dorothy, her dog Toto, and their three companions all have a purpose: Dorothy needs to get home, the Tin Man needs a heart, the Scarecrow needs a brain, the Lion needs courage, and Toto pulls back the curtain to reveal the Wizard so that they may all return home triumphant. Chapter 1 is about the path and finding the heart to embark on the quest. Chapter 2 is about gaining the wisdom to make the choices, even if they are difficult. Chapter 3 is about having the courage to act on the compassionate loving voice of the heart and the insight that comes from wisdom and, Chapter 4 reveals the triumphant outcome: “... at the end of the road is a golden sky And the sweet silver song of a lark.” (Gerry Marsden MBE 1942-2021, “You’ll Never Walk Alone”). Consider this your personal invitation. What a trip! RSVP requested. www.forthegoodofallnow.org
2. POWER-OVER—POWER-WITH
These four words will shift your understanding of the world and the place of humanity in it, and they will guide us through the coming macroshift to the paradigm of holos—oneness. In time, you will be able to immediately determine whether a particular undertaking is going to result in the Good of All, or the Good of the Few. Every day you make decisions to use power-over or power-with. Become aware of your thoughts and actions as they relate to these two kinds of power. As you observe, you will notice that power-over leads toward separation and domination, whereas power-with leads toward Unity and Peace— harmony. Power-over drains your energy. Power-with creates synergy— meaning it creates an energy that is greater than the sum of its parts— the energy in harmony, unity and peace.
No amount of power-over is going to save those who wield it because no man-made power-over can compete for long against nature’s power-with. The passage through the macroshift will be achieved by moving away from power-over and toward power-with. It is difficult to understand how any person would willingly want to be responsible for massive anthropogenic (human caused) disruption to life on Earth. Yet this is the deadly course our current ‘leaders’ are on. If the ‘leaders’ are taking us over a cliff, must we follow? Of course not. While billions of people all over the world take to the streets and corridors of power every day to try to influence policy and to prevent or lessen this catastrophe, often risking their lives to do so, there are many, many more on the sidelines, at least for now. There are also those who see the “world …as… a commodity… whose…heart…was small, and hard, and full of meanness.” They will use all the power-over they can arouse to defeat power-with, and although their strategies may no longer work, beware of the thrashing tail of the dying dinosaur as it seeks to retain power-over.
3. SHARED FATES, SHARED SPIRIT and RIGHT RELATIONSHIP
In the era of the Cult of Individualism, which I will cover in more detail later, it is a challenge for many to recognize that we are completely interconnected, but we are. You will find the following three themes— shared fates, spirit, and right relationship to each other and nature— echoing throughout For the Good of All, NOW! I believe, as the Indigenous cultures maintain, that these three connections apply to all that exists on Earth and in our universe.
Shared Fates: On a basic level, it is clear that we share a common fate: we are born into physical life, and we die. When Joni Mitchell sang “We Are Stardust” at Woodstock in 1969, she was not just artistically correct, she was also scientifically correct. Everything in our physical world is made from stardust and it returns to stardust—from dust to dust. We know that our universe was created from a single point in a Big Bang occurring about 13.8 billion years ago. The big bang of light and energy expanded to form the universe we live in. As it stretched out, it cooled down. As the universe cooled, it yielded the basic building blocks of all matter—the atom and its sub-particles.
In an interview by Simon Worrall, published January 28, 2015 in National Geographic, the authors Karel and Iris Schrijver of Living with the Stars—How the Human Body is Connected to the Life Cycles of the Earth, the Planets, and the Stars, state that...
