If the feelings of safety and euphoria were interrupted in a healthy way, the child felt secure in their independence and not as if they had been cut adrift from their life-giving source.#4 The impact of peer rejection is similar for love addicts and children who grew up in a dysfunctional home. It makes them insecure and hungry for acceptance. They are unable to find love in a normal way, and they become obsessed with finding it with someone who can provide it.
