Marten Julian’s National Hunt Annual has, for over four decades, become established as the season’s most authoritative guide to unexposed horses and recruits from Ireland and France.

The annual also includes Marten’s in-depth previews of the Cheltenham Gold Cup and Champion Hurdle, together with Jodie Standing’s choice nominations from the bumper field.

This book is covering the 2021/22 horse racing Jumps season.

Marten Julian has been involved with horse racing for over fifty years, originally establishing the Professional Sporting Bureau, one of the country's first independent racing advisory services, back in 1972 while studying at King's College, London for a degree in Theology. Upon graduating, Marten was invited by the Sunday Times and their feature writer Brough Scott to create a column that would look ahead to the week's forthcoming races. 'Warm Up', as the article became known, quickly attracted a massive following thanks to a steady stream of big-priced winners. Marten soon acquired a reputation as a specialist in unraced and less-exposed horses and his first Dark Horses Annual, which focused on emerging talent in the equine world, was written in 1976. He has since produced hundreds of publications including the National Hunt Guide, a companion to Dark Horses, Bulletin Books and Weekend Cards, garnering praise from industry professionals and the racing public alike. With the growth of the internet Marten now produces a regular blog and distributes his work in computer friendly formats as well as publishing it in more traditional means, attracting new fans while remaining faithful to long-term followers. Marten has also been successfully involved with ownership since 1980, when he established the country's first racehorse ownership club, and recently joined Dark Horse Racing as their expert in racehorse acquisition and management. With Dark Horse racing he continues to use his expertise to purchase horses - the majority for little money - and add to his impressive record of being associated with over 50 winners. Marten has contributed to numerous specialist publications and has worked in an advisory capacity in the film industry and on television. He enjoys playing tennis when his equine commitments allow.
