A group of women embroiderers have created five pieces of artwork to commemorate the 400th year of the sailing of the Mayflower to America. This book explains the process of creating the embroideries from start to finish.
This book explains the lengthy process involved in creating authentic, detailed embroideries. The craftswomen wanted to stay true to 17th-century methods by choosing the correct background fabric and colours for the threads. The work took several ladies two years to complete. Fundraising for this expensive undertaking was included in the project and the local community were invited to take part too by 'making a stitch' of their own. The book is beautifully illustrated in full colour, which helps show off these artwork pieces.
