Your choice of furniture and the way you use and arrange it is what transforms a house into a home. But while much has been written about the classic furniture of the past, it can be harder to identify those qualities that make a modern piece of furniture classic or collectible. Demystifying contemporary furniture, "Furniture" begins by looking at new manufacturing methods and the latest materials, explaining how furniture is made today. Then, taking you through the home room by room, it shows materials to create stylish yet supremely functional furniture, and offering advice on selecting pieces from the sometimes bewildering range now available. The last chapter shows how to pull together separate pieces to furnish a complete room, demonstrating how to mix and match your furniture to create the effect you desire. "Furniture" arms you with the knowledge to make an informed choice, enabling you to select today's pieces that are tomorrow's collectibles.

Sebastian Conran trained in Industrial Design Engineering and owns his own successful design practice. He is a Trustee of the Design Museum and has contributed to design magazines such as Blueprint and Design Week. Mark Bond designs furniture, interiors and exhibitions and runs his own thriving design practice. He studied furniture design as a post-graduate at the Royal College of Art where he met Sebastian Conran.
