This book, which is the first to be written about the breed from the British point of view, records the Haflinger's development from its early origins in the Tyrolean Alps to the present day. Originally developed as an all-purpose farm horse sure-footed and hardy enough to survive in its mountain home, its re-appearance as an all round riding and driving horse is charted. Its versatility and ability to succeed in many diverse equestrian activities are well-documented here. Explanations of selective breeding, breeding standards and policy for the future are also given. The book illustrates the progress of the breed from the time when just a few Haflingers first arrived in Britain in the 1960s up until today, when approximately 500 animals are registered.
