This is the first English book talking about the Three Gorges Project Eco-Environmental Monitoring System (TGPEEMS). Zhenli Huang works at the National Research Center for Sustainable Hydropower Research, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research.

This is the first English book talking about the Three Gorges Project Eco-Environmental Monitoring System (TGPEEMS). It presents lessons learned in construction of large dam projects at home and abroad in this field, identifies existing problems before suggesting a scientific improvement plan. and, most importantly, it studies modification of the TGPEEMS to adapt it to the changing situation after the impoundment of the reservoir, and provides an essential overview of measures and progress in the ecological and environmental protection for the ongoing project. As such, it offers a valuable reference guide for both researchers and environmental decision-makers.Prof. Zhenli Huang works at the National Research Center for Sustainable Hydropower Research, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research. Prof. Bingfang Wu works at the Institute of Remote Sensing Applications, Chinese Academy of Sciences, China.

Zhenli Huang, professor, born in 1966 in Pingba County, Guizhou Province,China; graduated from the hydraulic engineering department of Tsinghua University in 1993, with a PhD Eng., having engaged in technology and management for the Three Gorges Project (TGP) since 1993; now serving as director and professor of National Research Center for Sustainable Hydropower Development, China Institute of Water Resources and Hydropower Research (IWHR); and former deputy director-general (2002-2012) of the Reservoir Management Department of Executive Office, State Council Three Gorges Project Construction Committee (SCTGPCC) (a high ranking decision-making agency))longtime responsible for the research, monitoring and management concerning TGP environmental protection, participated in reviewing of TGP major technical engineering and coordinator in the TGP's navigation and sediment studies; publishing more than 60 papers and more than 10 works and technical reports in academic publications a nd conferences at home and abroad; winner of the third class and the second class awards for scientific and technical progress from the State Education Commission in 1996 and 1998 respectively , and the national second class award for scientific and technical progress in 2005.
