Rose Gilbert was a successful young medic and an eye surgeon in training, until professional burnout changed her life forever. The increasingly noticeable change in her health led her to take a career break from medical training to seek answers to her own health issues. In her search for personal healing, she explored alternative and integrative approaches to health, and discovered healing as taught by the traditional shamans of Latin America. Fascinated by these traditions, she wanted to experience them first-hand and spent a month in Peru with the indigenous people of the Amazon jungle and of the mountainous Andean region, learning about their traditional culture of shamanism and plant medicine.
This life-changing trip to Peru broadened Rose's perspective on healing and allowed her to recommence her medical training with new insight and wisdom. In Reinventing the Medicine Wheel, she shares the key lessons she learnt about Peruvian healing teachniques and how these can be used in our modern Western life to achieve wellbeing. This book will teach you the key pillars of Peruvian shamanic healing:
A strong connection with nature and the earth
The influence of our "inheritance" - genetics, epigenetics, and archetypes - on our health
How we can improve our health through diet, exercise, and sleep
How our thoughts and stress have an effect on our physical health, including triggering inflammation and allergic reactions
The role of emotions on our bodies and techniques to balance emotions
The influence of our relationships with family members and colleagues on our health
This book includes exercises at the end of every chapter, such as reflective journaling, developing connection with nature, meditation, visualization, and shamanic journeying. This book is for all those seeking alternative and integrative approaches to healing, backed by scientific evidence!
