Written in a friendly and engaging manner by an experienced enthusiast, this manual provides a thorough and detailed restoration guide complete with hundreds of original colour photos. This is the author’s third restoration guide, his previous works having been well-received by both professional and amateur restorers alike.
This manual is for all owners, would-be owners and enthusiasts of the legendary Kawasaki Z1 900, Z/KZ900 and Z1000 motorcycle built between 1972 and 1980, and covers the complete restoration of a 1976 KZ900, from the sourcing of the bike to its completion as a fully-restored machine.

Every area is covered, starting with advice on different models, spares availability, and where best to source a bike to restore. Every area of the restoration is then described in full detail, including the engine, frame, gearbox, wheels, suspension, forks, brakes, ancillaries, bodywork and electrics, accompanied by hundreds of clear colour photos to illustrate the procedures in step-by-step fashion. Additional work on a 1974 Z1A model adds complementary information.

What really sets this manual apart from other offerings, however, is that it has been written in a friendly, humorous manner by an enthusiast of many years, who is able to involve and entertain the reader, as well as guide them through the restoration process.

This is Chris Rooke's third restoration guide: his previous works have been massive hits with mechanics, enthusiasts and restorers throughout the world.

Chris was born in Oxford and grew up in a family devoted to all things mechanical, but especially engines and motorbikes. He owned his first bike aged 11 – a Raleigh Runabout – quickly followed by a couple of scooters. When he turned 16, he realised his dream of becoming a 'Biker' … on a Casals moped! From these humble beginnings, his love of British bikes blossomed, owning and rebuilding a BSA Starfire, a Triumph T100, a Matchless G3LS, and a Bonneville T140V – before he finally returned to his teenage dream: the Triumph Trident. Chris’s experiences in restoring the Triumph Trident, a Kawasaki Z1, and a Norton Commando have led him to write three Enthusiast Restoration Guides, published by Veloce, as well as an ‘Essential Buyer’s Guide”.
