The first complete history of the famous British Dunelt motorcycles
In this fascinating book, Justin Faithfull tells the inside story of Dunelt motorcycles, a name combined from the original Dunford & Elliot (Sheffield) Ltd, which began manufacturing car components but which soon diversified into the manufacture of specialised motorcycles and side-cars.

Dunelt's first product was a motorcycle with an innovative two-stroke engine developed by the company. The author also covers the four-stroke models that were developed from engines produced by other manufacturers and the final two-strokes developed from Villiers engines. Soon the motorcycles began to make a name for themselves by breaking records such as the first motorcycle to cross from Cairo to Sina in 1924. In 1928 a Model K Dunelt won the Double Twelve Hour World Record at Brooklands.

This comprehensive overview of all the different motorcycle models also features company innovations such as the development of side-cars, some of which were designed for passengers and others for commercial purposes such as carrying goods, and an early moped. Dunelt were also one of the first companies to successfully attract more women motorcyclists. The author explores the reasoning behind the company decisions and also sets the developments at Dunelt against the social and commercial background of the 1920s and 1930s.

Justin Faithfull studied Motorcycle Engineering Design and Sports Vehicle Dynamics at Kingston University and has worked as a motorcycle mechanic. He ran his own classic motorcycle engineering and restoration business. He has contributed to British Bike magazine and markets classic motorcycle literature through his company, Faithfull Classics.
