This book, featuring a mix of high-quality colour and black and white photographs, together with informative commentaries, covers the railways and ironstone lines of the East Midlands in the late 1950s and 1960s. Most of the photographs have never been published and all were taken by the author, his father, and their friends.
`The Last Years of Steam Around the East Midlands’ covers most of the railways across the county and the locomotives that worked over them. In the main, the time period covers the ten years or so from the late 1950s up to the end of steam working in the East Midlands. In addition to steam locomotives, their diesel replacements will also be shown. A number of industrial locations will also be visited, and in particular, the book explores the now-closed Ironstone Railways of the East Midlands. The photographs, a mixture of colour and black and white, come mostly from those taken by the author and his late father, with the balance coming from his father’s old friends. Most of the photographs have never been published, with all images accompanied by an extensive and informative commentary.

MICHAEL CLEMENS and his late father in the 1950s & 1960s lived in Worcestershire, but travelled all over Britain, from Penzance to the north of Scotland, filming many now long-closed railways and the steam locomotives that worked on them. The movie film collection, the largest of its kind in the UK, has been released by the author on thirty videos, starting in the 1990s. The first volume of still photographs was published in 2007, and `The Last Years of Steam Around the East Midlands’ is the author’s ninth book. The author’s website can be visited at www.michaelclemensrailways.co.uk and contains many hundreds of pages of railway memorabilia.
