After the age of Rembrandt came a time of silence and the everyday. Composition and colour became the hallmarks of the paintings of the era. Epitomized by the works of Vermeer, this contemplative era of Dutch painting is evoked in this CD-ROM.
After the age of Rembrandt, after the glow and the relish of that period, came a time of silence and the everyday. Composition and the shimmerings of paint and colour became the hallmarks of the paintings of Gerard Ter Borch, Pieter De Hooch, Salomon van Ruysdael and his nephew Jacob van Ruisdael, Paulus Potter and Jan Vermeer. Epitomized by the works of Vermeer, this contemplative era of Dutch painting is evoked in this CD-ROM. It is part of a series of six CD-ROM titles which examine the work of Bruegel, Rembrandt, Rodin, Rubens, Van Eyck and Vermeer. The work of these eminent artists and their immediate contemporaries is set against the history of their life and times, illuminating their influences and inspirations in a comprehensive yet accessible way. The CD-ROMs include reproductions which facilitate study of the paintings as a whole or in detail, while pre-set details highlight the minutiae of the paintings. Cross referencing between the paintings, text and index shows the artists, themes and techniques, as well as providing social and biographical details.
