Explore Blackpool's secret history through a fascinating selection of stories, facts and photographs.
Famous throughout the country, and beyond, for its Tower, its Illuminations and its Pleasure Beach amusement park, Blackpool is the archetypal British seaside resort. But there's more to this Lancashire town than donkey rides, sticks of rock and 'Kiss Me Quick' hats. Authors Roger Frost and Ian Thompson take the reader on a fascinating journey through the town's past, from its days as a watering hole for the wealthy to its rather less salubrious reputation as a magnet for Hen and Stag weekends. Along the way, they unearth tales of a 13,000-year-old Elk, early Jaguars, the legendary Bond Bug, an iconic biscuit and one of Britain's most exciting sports cars.

Secret Blackpool delves beneath the surface of this enduring old seaside resort, revealing a lesser-known past that even most local people don’t know.

Burnley resident Roger Frost is a retired teacher and a Burnley Borough Councillor. Once the Mayor of the town he is now Chairman of the Burnley Civic Society, President of the Briercliffe Society and Vice President of the Burnley & District Historical Society. Ian Thompson is a collector of local legends and part-time historian. He has been coming to Whitby for longer than he can remember, returning to his mother’s hometown year after year. He is the author of “Dracula’s Whitby” and co-author if two other books about Whitby history and folklore. He has also co-written three other local history books about Lancashire. In addition to writing, Ian’s hobbies include: infra-red photography, painting, and dressage. He is based in Southport. Jack Southern is a social and economic historian who lives in Blackpool.
