Old Cheshire Inns

This study traces the history of a number of old hostelries in the Cheshire area, in relation to Cheshire's social history, traditions and life style. The history of drink, licensing laws, inn signs and mail and stage coach days have been interwoven with stories of the individual inns. The names of the inns are examined to reveal links with various sports, animals, historic events and the local gentry. Illustrated with old pictures, photographs and memorabilia such as bill heads, the text contains information culled from many sources, including printed histories, old directories and various archives.
