Useful for singles, couples and families, visitors and residents alike, this guide by Mike Link encompasses a wide range of interests.

Mike Link is the retired director of the Audubon Center of the North Woods in Sandstone, MN. He is also the author of 22 books, and an adjunct professor at Hamline University, speaker and wilderness guide. His life has been in the environment since 1966 when he began writing a weekly column called Link’s Lore, and he continues to speak on behalf of the planet in his many roles. He and his wife, Kate Crowley, walked around Lake Superior’s shore in 2010, the only couple to ever do so, and they plan to bike the length of the Mississippi River next. They are travelers who love to explore the world, meet people, and challenge themselves to stay active. Mike has received awards in Environmental Education from the Izaak Walton League, the National Association of Interpretation and the North American Association of Environmental Education. He is the first recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Award from the Minnesota Association of Environmental Education and he and Kate received awards from the Binational Forum and Lake Superior Magazine. As grandparents, he and Kate have enjoyed the opportunity to travel and explore with their grandchildren and authored the Grandparents series for Adventure Publications. They love to challenge their grandchildren to explore and enjoy nature, to learn, and to be open to new opportunities. The five grandchildren have been the source of inspiration for their walk, their work, and their plans. It is their desire to leave a better planet for their grandchildren and to inspire others to do the same.
