Following the death of her husband, Jan Hardy is left to look after her two young children alone. When she cannot continue to make a success of the crumbling Welsh farm, she puts it up for auction and moves to Gloucestershire, but can only afford to live in a caravan on the site of her new property until she has built up a clientele and reputation in the world of horse training.
